The Rockland Electric (RECO) utility company serves 61,109 residential customers in northern New Jersey.  The deregulation of electricity in New Jersey has changed RECO from a full service electricity company (generation, transmission, and distribution) to just a transmission and distribution company.

RECO is now only in the business of delivering electricity to their customers at delivery charges (transmission and distribution rates) which are regulated by the state of New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

RECO does not profit from the supply charges (generation) of the electricity bill.  However, they are mandated to offer default service, known as basic generation service, to customers who do not choose their own electricity supply company.  Currently, there are electricity supply companies who are offering rates below the RECO default rates.
